Globally about 65% of adults with type 2 diabetes have metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and among adults with type 2 diabetes who underwent liver biopsy 65% have metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). The close link between MASLD and type 2 diabetes is explained by shared pathogenesis and mutual influence. In this lecture important novel findings about the heterogeneity of MASLD with respect to its pathogenesis, outcomes, and metabolism-based treatment responses is being presented.
